Queer Road Trip!
We have been successful in supporting a group of young people to gain funding for a road trip to Manchester to enable them to visit various youth organisations focusing on youth led initiatives so that we can learn from them and get inspiration for our own groups and plans. We have made contact with The Proud Trust, an organisation based in Manchester that supports LGBTQ+ young people and the adults in their lives to create positive change for the future by putting young people at the forefront of their work through youth groups, mentoring programmes that tackle discrimination and celebrate diversity. This will give us the skills to support other young people who volunteer within their communities and start to develop and nurture a network of young LGBTQ+ people in the Highlands that will increase their visibility, confidence and support networks in a time where there is increased division and discrimination. The trip will support us to learn how people from a different part of the country engage in youth work and youth collaboration and voice. The trip will take place in June 2026 for 4 or 5 nights. Alongside The Proud Trust our host organisation we also hope to visit Niamos, Creative City, Expressive Artz Manchester and more! The young peoples long term aspiration is to use a youth work approach to develop creative spaces across the Highlands in partnership with Youth Highland, find substantial funding to create and develop long-term creative youth led project(s) across Highland communities.
