About

Highland YLAG

Highland Youth Local Action Group (YLAG) is a collection of young people who are interested in improving opportunities for young people in rural areas. Through their Youth Impact Fund, the YLAG provides grant funding to young people and youth led projects in Highland aligned to the YLAG's own priorities. The YLAG is formed under the existing Highland Strategic Local Action Group (LAG), which is made up of cross-sector representatives and responsible for allocating the Highland Council’s Community-Led Local Development Funding.

Our Story

Forming a YLAG has long been an ambition of Highland Local Action Group, which is made up of community based representatives and allocates Highland’s distribution of Scottish Government Community Led Local Development (CLLD) funding administered by Highland Council, to give young people a voice in local decision making. In 2025, the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub set out with support from the Highland Council's Community Regeneration Team and partner organisations to coordinate setting up a YLAG in Highland. Highland YLAG established its membership of representatives from Affric Highlands, the Highland Youth ParliamentYouth Highland and other young professionals who have worked to identify their strategic priorities and create a funding round.

Our Priorities

Highland YLAG have identified four prioirities for 2025-26: Fulfillment, Development, Change & Connection. The YLAG's funding will be closlely aligned to these, and will encourage young people and youth led projects to apply for fudning which contributes to or enhances each of these factors in Highland.

National Network

Across Scotland, YLAGs have enabled young people to be involved in decision making processes and empowered them to tackle pertinent social issues. Highland YLAG is part of a national network of YLAGs, which have been successful in the Cairngorms, Orkney, Outer Hebrides, Forth Valley & Lomond, Fife and the Borders.
