Golspie Youth Action Project
Investment project code: 6
Project Summary
Our organisation supports children, young people and families across Golspie and the surrounding rural villages, where isolation, low income and limited access to services affect wellbeing and opportunities. We provide safe, inclusive spaces where young people can build confidence, develop skills and feel connected to their community.Project Description
GYAP Garden Builders
The GYAP Garden Builders project will support young people aged 16–30 to design and build wooden planter boxes, and potentially a small bench, for our community garden and new polytunnel. Young people will lead the design choices, measure materials, plan the builds, and use tools from our Reuse Tool Library, which operates as part of the GYAP charity shop. This gives young people access to safe, good‑quality tools while promoting reuse and sustainability. The project will run over 6–8 practical sessions between June and September 2026, including:
- A design and planning session
- A tool‑safety and skills introduction
- 4–6 hands‑on build sessions (cutting, assembling, sanding, painting)
- Installation of the planters/bench in the garden
We expect 10–15 young people to take part directly, with wider benefits for all who use the garden. The project will be supported by existing GYAP staff and volunteers, but no staff costs are included in the budget. All tools used will be hand tools or battery‑powered tools that are PAT‑tested, in date, and clearly labelled. The finished planters and bench will create a long‑lasting resource for future youth growing and wellbeing activities.
