Project Summary

Caithness KLICS was established in 2013 due to the demand for support for Young Carers in Caithness. A young carer is a young person who cares, unpaid, for a person who has any type of physical or mental illness, physical and/or mental disability or misuses substances such as alcohol or drugs. Caithness KLICS support Young Carers from age 5-18 years old.

Project Description

We are hoping to provide activities such as trips in the summer holidays which some of our young carers have asked to do including ten pin bowling. We are also looking into horse riding, surfing sessions and paddle boarding, all new skills and opportunities our young carers do not normally get to experience. We currently run 6 weekly groups during school term, we also try to aim to do 3-4 sessions in each week of the school holidays some of these being big activities and other times being wellbeing days, we currently have around 85 young carers from all over Caithness who we try to reach at all times and get them all included in some activity. We work in a team of 8 staff, 5 of these are not term time so are always around for the trips and activities. During these activities we also supply a snack or lunch for the kids so this would also be included in our costs. All our staff have food hygiene certificates too.
