Project Summary

Ormlie Community Association was established in 1997. Our aim is to tackle poverty and alleviate loneliness in the Ormlie Estate in Thurso. We are open 6 days a week and run a variety of groups such as Baby & Toddler groups, Youth & Teen groups, Silver Crafters for over 55's, Digital Skills for those restricted to digital devices and Social hubs which provides a hot meal to members of the community.

Project Description

The Social Circle

We would like to run a group once a week with different activities such as arts & crafts, digital skills (creating CV's, applying for courses/college or job searching), cooking on a budget, games and quizzes and gardening. This group will be specifically for those aged between 16-30. Our group will run for an hour and a half each week and will be run by one of our Support Workers. We have been asked several times before to run a skills/development group for this age range, so this feels like the perfect opportunity. Our group will bring people together to socialise and create new skills at the same time. By bringing members of the community together to create friendships, this will have a huge positive impact on their mental health. With living in a rural area there are very limited groups for this age range in our local area.
