The Place is a third sector charity operating without statutory funding, relying on grants and fundraising to deliver vital services. Across our two venues -Drop In and The Field- we provide a safe, welcoming environment for young people five days six nights per week. We support those disengaged from education or mainstream services, many of whom experience instability, poverty and risks such as substance misuse and exploitation.

Project Description

Playscheme Volunteering

We are seeking funding to support our summer holiday playscheme at The Field, specifically to develop opportunities for young people to take on leadership and volunteering roles. Through this project, young people will act as young leaders supporting the planning, organisation and delivery of activities for primary aged children attending the playscheme. This hands on experience will enable them to build essential employability skills, including communication, team work and leadership while increasing their confidence and sense of responsibility.

As well as practical skills and experience, the young people will access accredited training in key areas such as first aid, child protection and food hygiene. These qualifications will enhance their CVs and provides solid evidence of their skills and readiness for employment. Their involvement will also contribute towards achieving SQA recognised Youth Achievement Awards. Many of the young people we support face barriers linked to disadvantage and have limited opportunities. By investing in their development as young leaders, this project will provide meaningful pathways into further education, training or employment.

This funding will ensure we can continue delivering a high quality, inclusive playscheme while equipping young people with the skills, qualifications and experience needed to progress towards positive futures.The playscheme will run for 10 days throughout the summer holidays with all relevant training being completed beforehand. We will have 20 young leaders taking part. We will also provide a team building day for the young leaders prior to the delivery of playscheme.
